Here is a lovely email I received recently from someone who discovered abstract painting for perhaps the first time!

Good afternoon Martin,

On Sunday last my family took me out to lunch in The Royal Wiiliam Yard,Seco lounge to be precise. Whilst there I happened upon your Brochure and thought I might glance through it to while away the time whilst waiting for food and drink to arrive. There was quite a delay so I had plenty of time.
The reason for this email is that I felt I had to tell you that at 60 years old I finally know a little of what abstract art, (if I may call it that) isall about. It was like a light coming on!  All of the pictures spoke to me sand at one point I had to be reminded that I was out to lunch at someone else's expense, and it would be polite to actually eat the food. I have gone from looking at blobs of paint on the canvas to really enjoying what someone else was trying to express and it wasn't hard. May I take the liberty of commending you on your work, although I know absolutely nothing about art and indeed have been exposed to very little. Seldom have I passed such an enjoyable half an hour. The pity of it is, that I will never be able to afford to buy one of your canvasses, but I will covet them forever. A particular favourite was Black Widow.

Thank you again for this epiphany, life will never be quite the same again.

Now we are here in April and new paintings are in the studio and on there way. Another project is on the way with dislaying work in the Plymouth Council Chambers and will be going up next month. The gallery has some new works such as Resin/Silver jewellery by GiddyGecko.com as well as some very intersting furniture by them.

Have returned from my favourite place Thailand after a fantastic recharge and beautiful living, inspired to start this years images, abstracting the feelings of the warmth I get from this different world.

2013?!!

We are now into the second month of the year and my annual holiday starts. Off once more to the Far East where I recharge my batteries, sketch the view and soak in the orient deep into my soul. I love this place to escape the madness of the western drawl. Where I can feel real and alive with no strings pulling me left or right. Its just simple calm and free.

See you when (or if) I return!

 

A real day to remember as one of my favorite artists Albert Irvin visited my gallery. He was in Plymouth to receive a doctorate from Plymouth College of art and I had the great honor of his company as he popped into see me.

My annual exhibition is up and Private View was a major success, The Exhibition runs until November 30th and then followed by a collective show of some past work for the run up to Christmas.

We now have an art shop with smaller items including photography, ceramics and Jewellery so pop in for a pre Christmas brows.

I am now fully open and moved to my new space in the yard and the comments are wonderful so all the hard work has been worth it, it's a more industrious space and sets off my art beautifully so pop by when you can.
