The Story:
“I’ve never been on a fishing trip, but I do have more than 3,000 miles of sailing behind me. One day a fisherman came ashore and offered me a sack of herring after his long day at sea, and something about that moment stayed with me. This painting feels like a crossing of those two worlds — the rhythm of sailing and the raw honesty of the fishing life. Living so close to the port of Plymouth, the title felt inevitable; it belongs to this coastline as much as I do.”

The Story:
I created many water‑influenced works during this period, drawing on the shifting rhythms of rivers and estuaries. This larger‑scale piece was inspired by our own Tamar Estuary — its tides, its movement, and the quiet power of the landscape. Those flowing forms and layered colours became a foundation for much of what followed in my practice.

There was a particular way I moved the paint over canvas in the mid-2010s and this work has that flow which is such a part of what I do with paint.

Wild and Free was the title for a series of work that left the nest mostly with only a few that then got stowed until now so WIld is back in the market and a painting that has a depth and sort of darkness it never totally reveals itself.

From the amazing Beach Holiday Series I played with a bit of home framing with this delightful work and I just love it. It has lived with me since its conception and it resembles those marks I was loving in 2015.

This piece has always drawn me in. Are there faces in there, or is it just playing tricks on my mind? I’ve always loved how Picasso toyed with perception, and this painting feels like my own playful conversation with that spirit. It isn’t a Picasso — it’s a Bush — but it still asks the same mischievous question: what do you really see?

So we have some studio paintings such as this one which has been admired and almost bought a few times, but now I'd love to see it find its forever home.

This painting was the beginning of a new series inspired by countless cycle rides through the Devon landscape. The freedom of movement, changing light, and the rhythm of the countryside became the energy behind the marks and colours.

There is a particular feeling when you're cycling through Devon — the hills, the curves, the wind, the changing light. After enough journeys, the landscape becomes part of you. This painting is about that feeling of freedom and connection.
